While studio execs at Disney may forge ahead without Johnny Depp for the fifth and sixth Pirates of the Caribbean films, they’ll definitely be paying a hefty amount to have him in the latest sequel of the franchise.
Johnny Depp has signed a swashbuckling good deal of $ 35 million to star in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film.
The deal places Depp above other high-earning actors such as Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson, who all command high salaries, but less than Depp’s $35 million.
This sequel will lose a couple of their main characters; both Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom have opted out of starring in the film. But Geoffrey Rush will return to play Captain Barbossa, and we also hear Penelope Cruz may be the female lead.
Depp got £15 million for the third film, Dead Man’s Chest, and stands to collect some £50 million from the whole series.
Here is a list of the Top 10 biggest payouts:
Harrison Ford (£38m) Indiana Jones 4
Tom Hanks (£29m) Angels and Demons
Cameron Diaz (£28.5m) What Happens in Vegas
Jim Carrey (£23m) Cable Guy
Will Smith (£18m) Hancock
Sacha Baron Cohen (£16m) Borat
Mel Gibson (£17m) Lethal Weapon 4
Matt Damon (£15m) The Bourne Supremacy
Tom Cruise (£12m) Mission: Impossible III
Robert Pattinson (£10m) Twilight Saga
