
Soon a health insurance scheme will be launched for the kids suffering from various developmental disabilities and mentally challenged.
The Niramya Health Insurance Scheme would remit the premium for the families with a monthly income less than Rs. 15,000, the applicants hailing from families with a monthly income exceeding Rs. 15,000 should remit an annual premium of Rs. 500.
Under the scheme, anganwari workers and auxiliary midwives will be trained on how to deal with these children.
Davinder Singh, additional deputy commissioner said, “The scheme is being introduced from April 1 wherein kids can avail free treatment in hospitals up to Rs 1 lakh.”
Dr Neelam Sodhi, director, Aashirwaad, an NGO dealing with developmental disability, said, “The scheme will be applicable from April 1. We will also start a campaign under which people will be specially trained on how to eal with such kids.”
“Many times people don’t know how to deal with such children as they need special treatment. We need to teach people how to take care of these kids and help them gain confidence,” she added.
